What Matters Most

My 41-years of life have been somewhat of a roller coaster. I’ve had some extreme highs and some not so fun lows. If you would’ve have asked the 24-year old Jennifer what her life would look like, it would be far from what it is and what it has been. And yet, through every experience, God has loved me, forgiven me, shown me grace and mercy beyond measure, blessed me beyond words and taught me some very valuable life lessons.

As I realize that the days are getting shorter, I’m also coming to terms with just how short this thing called life is and how today is so valuable because God has put me here during this time period, “for such a time as this.”

So, what has God shown me about life? Let me share:

  • To truly live the life that you were meant for, you can’t worry about what other people think. You need to only concern yourself with what He thinks and the reality is that He loves you more than you can imagine. I’m here to please Him and no one else. “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” ~ Galatians 1:10
  • Unforgiveness will keep you from moving forward. When someone offends you or hurts you, forgive them quickly and pray for them. Unforgiveness is a poison to your heart and soul. Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions and wrongdoings. “But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions.” ~ Mark 11:25-26
  • God is looking for those who are ready to take risks; those who don’t need everything to be planned out perfectly before they will allow Him to use them. When you allow yourself to risk everything for Him, He will show up in your life in some big ways. Remember, faith always requires risk. “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” ~ Hebrews 11:8
  • Many times what we deem as being scary or impossible, are opportunities that God wants to use in our life to not only impact this world, but to impact our lives. It’s during those moments that we grow the most and come to experience God like never before. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” ~ Proverbs 3:5
  • What you believe about yourself is your biggest key when it comes to being successful and being who God has uniquely created you to be. Your mindset will either lead you to your promised land, or destroy you in the process. “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” ~ Philippians 4:8
  • You cannot have a God-filled life full of miracles, adventure and success if you have unbelief in your life. “So watch your step, friends. Make sure there’s no evil unbelief lying around that will trip you up and throw you off course, diverting you from the living God.” ~ Hebrews 3:12
  • Trust God’s timing in your life today. He knows what He’s doing. At the right time, God will find you as you continue seeking Him. He will find you in the ordinary moments of life. He will find you even when you can’t see the whole picture. He will find you when you feel overwhelmed. And He will find you even when you have more questions than answers. “But even there, if you seek God, your God, you’ll be able to find him if you’re serious, looking for him with your whole heart and soul.” ~ Deuteronomy 4:29-31
  • You can’t be everything that everyone wants you to be-you can only be who God has called you to be. Choose to be a God pleaser instead of a people pleaser. Choose to chase after God’s calling instead of the American dream. “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” ~Philippians 3:14
  • You don’t have to live your life “reacting” to everything that takes place. You don’t have to live a life filled with anxiety. Just rest in Him knowing that He has control over everything. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” ~ 1 Peter 5:7
  • God uses ordinary, imperfect people. You don’t have to be qualified to be called; He will qualify you when He calls you. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” ~ Romans 3:23
  • If you truly want to live the life that you were meant for, you are going to have to get past your fears. So many hold themselves back because they are fearful of so many things including how they look, whether they will fail or succeed, what other people think, making the right decision, etc. Or in my case, the enemy likes to put some fear in me anytime I get ready to board an airplane and fly somewhere. But I’m determined to not let that stop me from pursuing and going after the calling that God has given me. Push through, take a step, and watch what happens. If you fall, get back up and learn from it. Don’t let anything stop you. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” ~ Joshua 1:9
  • If God is for us, then what could we possibly fear? He’s on our side; He’s fighting on our behalf. He stands between us and harms way and He will do whatever it takes to protect those that He calls His own. He’s your biggest fan and cheerleader in life and no matter what anyone says about you or thinks about you, He’s sticking up for you because He loves you more than you know. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  ~ Isaiah 41:10
  • With God, all things are possible. Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” ~ Matthew 19:26

Above all, I’ve come to learn that I want to be the strong, bold, courageous woman that God has called me to be. And if this is my heart’s desire and the calling of God on my life, then I cannot waste another day being fearful, questioning everything, wasting time in debates, trying to please everyone, and not setting boundaries. As Christine Caine says,

You actually have the power to decide to take control of your life…. there’s more in you than you know. You can do hard things! Don’t waste your life trying to prove something to someone who really doesn’t care about you anyway. Be faithful to Jesus. He sees. He knows. He cares.”

    God is showing me that he will provide everything I need.

  2. This week I am off from work and decided to take the time to pray and listen to God. Your entire article is everything I have been struggling with. Do I stay at a job that is convenient, flexible, with great Christian people, but not fulfilling, or do I spread my wings and go where I believe God is calling me to in my own business. I have prayed for two years and can not decide if I am staying in a job where I don’t enjoy the work because God is asking me to stay or am longing for a destination God is calling me to, but not trusting Him to make it work financially and for my family.

Keep praying until God clearly shows you to what to do and He gives you His peace that only He can give. I just know that He will lead you in the right direction. Hang in there!

  4. Well today i am steeping out of a relationship I have been in for 9 years. 4 years we didn’t live together and the other 5 we did. As the years have gone by I knew the way we was living wasn’t pleasing to God but I still put a blind eye to it allowing the enemy to trick me into thinking that oh, God knows our hearts and He knows we love each other we don’t need a piece of paper to say we are married. God has come to me so many times over the years to let go but my flesh was very stubborn and ignored it. So today I have finally decided to stop fighting God and let go. I am truly understanding what it means to have works of faith. No I am not holding on and stepping away thinking, ok if I do this bring him back to me. I am giving everything over to God and what ever His plans are for me is where I shall follow. So as I sit here typing these words to comment on this blog….. I ask you to please give it all over to God and He will fulfill his promises He has for you… to Prosper you and not to harm you!!!!!!
