What Does Living Intentionally Look Like To You?

This week in the iChoose2 Love My Life Journey, we are looking at what it means to live intentionally.  We were all challenged to identify and share our Top 5 Priorities for this year and then take a look at our planner and our checkbook to see if they make a liar out of us.  For some of us, our checkbook & planner were in full agreement with our priorities.  For others of us…well, let’s just say we have some work to do!

And if you fall in that second group, that’s OK.  Not ONE of us is perfect and the first step is always to recognize there’s a problem.  So congratulations on completing the first step!

I’ll share a little about what’s going on at the Napier house.

In September, we had a precious baby girl named Kenley Jane.  She is beautiful and amazing and we are so thankful for her!  Big Sister Halle Kate is loving her and our dog Chloe spans from being intrigued by her to ignoring her completely.  My husband is just incredible with both of our girls and actually brought them both to Church this past Sunday ALL BY HIMSELF because I had to be there early to sing.  They were in the outfits I had laid out, were clean, and on time.  I was so impressed with his Daddy Skills.

And TODAY, my baby who is not even 4 months old yet, had two teeth break through!  How could this baby that I’m pretty sure I gave birth to last week, have two teeth?!?  TWO!  This reminded me all the more how important it is to live by our priorities and be intentional with our lives.  We only have so many days.  No one knows how many we have. Choose to make each day count by LIVING INTENTIONALLY.

My Top 5 Priorities for this season of my life are:

1 My relationship with God: Specifically getting back into the routine of quiet time early before the girls are up.

2. My marriage: Being a help meet to Mike and encouraging him, making date nights a priority, and just enjoying each other.

3. My daughters/ parenting: Making the most of my time home with them and preparing Halle Kate for kindergarten this fall.

4. Friends/ Extended Family/ Community: Planning regular time with friends, extended family, and getting to know my neighbors better.

5. Making my home a haven: De-cluttering, giving away things we don’t use/need, having house ready (that is, clean or at least picked up enough that I wouldn’t be embarrassed to have people over) to HOST people for dinner, get togethers, and enjoying our home as a family.

I’ve written out these priorities along with goals I have for each area this year.  Then I’ve broken each goal into several steps I need to take in order for those bigger goals to happen.  This process is HUGELY important to me because if I don’t break each Big Goal into lots of teeny-tiny-I -can-manage-to-do-at-least-that-much-today goals, then they just won’t happen.  I’m choosing 10 Little-Baby-Step Goals each week and putting them in my planner. I’m also asking myself before I spend money, “Does this purchase reflect our top priorities for our family this year?” or in other words, “Is this really a necessary purchase?”  I’m excited to say that more and more each day, my planner & my checkbook are in agreement with my priorities and my hope is that this is the year that it will be true for you too!

If you haven’t already shared your top 5 priorities, I’d love for you to share them by leaving a comment or just let me know one way you are choosing to live intentionally this year.

Blessings,

Leigh Ann

  1. Great post!
I like what you did, and that takes action. Intellectually we all know that we’re supposed to do what you’re suggesting, and most people have good intentions.
The disconnect is that the majority of people never take this first step. The one’s that do take this step, don’t take the next step of taking action on those priorities.
I salute you for taking action on step 1. It’s up to all of us leaders to take action on the things we talk about.
    Way to go!

    • Thanks AJ!
So important to keep moving in the right direction and if we slip to just get up and start heading in the right direction again. For me, it is something I have to remind my self of weekly and daily and also to track my progress so I can be excited about what HAS been accomplished. Best to you in 2012 and thanks for reading!

  2. I am going to choose to live more wisely by making better choices for my family and I.
I am also choosing to say no more this year. I have become a yes person and I need to learn to say no more. I have already said no this year and it felt great!!
