We Always Have Something To Give

I was reminded today that even when we may feel like the world’s problems are too big and our resources are too little, God always makes a way for us to be part of the solution. When we focus on His abundance and not on our fear, we always have something to give.

Today, I was leaving a store prematurely because my Littlest One got too cranky for me to keep shopping. On the way to my car I was thinking, “I really needed to get this shopping done but she REALLY needs a nap. When am I going to be able to get back out today?” Then I started thinking of the expenses coming up with Christmas gifts, birthdays, and of course regular bills. I was getting pretty grumpy as I was thinking of all I needed to do and a little fearful that I wouldn’t have the time, energy, and money to make it all happen.

The negative thoughts were swirling around in my head were interrupted when a lady came out of the store and was walking to her car. She had long brown hair and it looked like something out of a shampoo commercial! Her face showed me that her mind was busy with her own swirling thoughts too. So, as I was leaving, I rolled down my window and told her how pretty I thought her hair was when it was blowing in the wind. Her face lit up and she said thank you. I could tell that my comment really brightened her day. She may have needed the compliment but not near as much as I needed to give it.

But I almost didn’t give it.

After all I had things to do and she looked busy and what if she thought I was a crazy person and all of that. But I just felt led to give her a compliment and I was obedient to roll down my window and do it. I’m so glad I did! It didn’t cost me anything but it blessed us both and stopped the swirling negative thoughts in their tracks.

On my way home, I remembered hearing on the news that a local non-profit was in need of warm winter coats, clothing, blankets, etc. So I decided to keep the giving going. I thought I could at least find a few things that I don’t wear anymore or blankets that we rarely use.

Results:

  • I found quite a few things to give.
  • I forced myself to try on things and see if I would really wear them this winter.
  • I freed up more space in my closets.
  • I made more room in my heart.

I was reminded of how much God has given me. That makes me even more excited to give these things I’m not even using to people who need them. The most important thing I’m giving away today though, is the creeping fear that I won’t have enough. I am choosing to trust God and give because that is where I grow and where others are blessed.

So whether it is a compliment, coat, thank you, blanket, warm smile, or cash; remember, we always have SOMETHING to give. Don’t hold back! Don’t let fear stop you from giving. I believe we can all make a difference if we are obedient to take action. Love wins when we give believing that all of the little things do add up. What has God given you that is now intended for someone else? Now go keep the giving going!

“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”

-Hebrews 13:16

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.”

-Phillippians 4:9

  1. Sweet Leigh Ann! Your blog touched me today! So often I think of wonderful little things to do or say and hold back because of fear of how it will be received. Is it good enough, nice enough–thoughts like that flying through my mind.

You inspire me to take more chances. Thank you.

    • Harriet,
So sorry I’m just reading your comment! So very glad it has inspired you to take more chances. You are an amazing lady and that adds even more weight to your kind words. Give generously and you will bless and be blessed. Have a great day! -Leigh Ann

  2. Hi Leigh Ann! Thank you for your thoughtful blog. I have someone in my office who has suffered a stroke in the last year and I make it a point everyday to take care of her needs. Ice in her glass, water, etc. I know this is what the Lord means when he says take care of each other. It is such a gift to read your kind words. It makes me want to pass it forward with the things in my closet.

You and the whole iBloom are such a breathe of fresh air.

    Peace,
    Susan

    • Susan, Your humble acts of service inspire me! Yes, I believe it is not really hard to do those small things but we often dismiss their importance. I am certain that your acts of service to that lady are a BIG deal to her. Keep it up and so thankful you took the time to read and to comment. Let me know how it goes with your closet. 🙂 -Leigh Ann
