We often think of Valentine’s Day as the day of love to be shared by couples. But this holiday is the perfect day to gather the whole family for a Valentine’s Day activity!
I asked a young friend to share an activity she enjoys doing with her family for Valentine’s Day. She is married and has two amazing elementary aged sons. She pondered my question and said, “I know, The Love Jar!” She went on to explain they have a mason jar for each family member. Then, everyone writes out reasons why they love and appreciate each other and puts them in the jar. They might list specific character traits and talents. Or, they might share a particular incident when a family member showed compassion to another. The list for why you love someone goes on and on!
Of course, I envisioned cute mason jars with gingham ribbon! Those are thoughts a Mom has that raised two amazing daughters! Then I thought, hmnnn…. what a great craft/gift idea to do for my adult daughters. We live in three different states and I’m always looking for ways to tell and show them how much I love them! And…. this would be the gift that keeps on giving (sorry Uncle Eddie, I stole your line!) Seriously, how wonderful to be able to pull out a piece of paper from your Mom, sister, or friend with words of appreciation and love!
So, this Valentine’s Day, in addition to a possible romantic dinner, candy, and/or a fancy card, you might consider making a Love Jar to give to your family and friends. Gather your family together to create a Valentine’s Day activity or gift from the heart- you may be starting a new tradition!
Let us now how your Love Jar turns out. We’d love you to share pictures! Happy Valentine’s Day!
