Speaking is the Ingredient that Gives Your Business Extra Flavor

Speaking is a necessary ingredient of your business, ministry or product. You have a message that needs to be heard and there are many ways you can communicate it. You may have a blog, do advertising, have a Facebook page, go to Networking groups or encourage the people you presently work with to tell others. Those are all very good ways to inform people that you have a business or product. But when you add speaking you connect with many people, you get to share the message you are so passionate about and you get to help people take the next step with you.

Every ingredient in a cake is important. If you leave out the baking soda, it will be flat. If you leave out the sugar it will be bitter. If you leave out the flour it will be too runny. If you leave out the…well…you get the idea! You need all the ingredients and the right measure of ingredients as well. Speaking might be like the baking soda for your business – helping it rise. It might be like the eggs, connecting it all together. Or it might be like the icing…giving the finishing touches that it needs.

Here are three questions I often get when people are wrestling with adding the speaking ingredient to their business:

  1.  How many talks do I need to have ready to give? The truth is you only need one. This ONE talk becomes your signature message that people need to hear and act on. It connects people with your business or ministry and conveys the message of your heart with the people who need to hear it. It will become the talk that various groups hear about and invite you to come deliver to their group or organization.
  2. Why would people want to listen to me? God has given you a passion, a desire, to help a certain group of people. You are the expert. When you learn how to put together a powerful talk effectively, you gain credibility and are looked at as a professional. People WANT help solving their problems – so they WILL listen!
  3. How can I get over my terrible fear of speaking in front of people? Statistics show that speaking in front of a group is the #1 fear on the top ten fears list – ahead of death, spiders and snakes, and confined places. So most people ARE nervous about speaking in front of a group. However, if you learn how to put together a talk that holds attention and helps people take action, it boosts your confidence. When you are prepared and excited about helping others connect with you, you can learn to overcome your fears!
