How many of you wake up and say, “Today I think I’ll go looking for joy!” I know many of you have heard of an Egg Hunt- one of the many Easter traditions in the U.S. – but how many are familiar with a Joy Scavenger Hunt?
As a young girl in the 60’s and 70’s, scavenger hunts were a common activity. At slumber parties, we would divide into groups of 2’s and 3’s and set out in the neighborhood searching for a piece of black thread or 10 chocolate chips! In fact, as a hostess of one of these adventures, there was quite a bit of pressure to come up with unique and rare items to collect from willing neighbors. I loved planning and participating in scavenger hunts!
As a grown woman, I now go on Joy Scavenger Hunts! I actually do wake up most mornings and say, “God, what an amazing day you’ve given me… I am going to look for joy!” The truth is, life is too short and amazing NOT to look for joy! And God places so much joy in your path…. He’s just waiting for you to find it!
First stop on the Joy Scavenger Hunt, clean water to wash my hands/face and make my coffee. Next, I may or may not catch a glorious sunrise (I’m more of a sunset girl!) Then, it’s off to my morning time with God-worship songs that fill my heart and lungs with joy! And reading God’s words-there’s always a treasure He’s placed there for me to discover! I move on to breakfast, working out, opening my laptop to write and connect with the fabulous women in the iBloom Membership, Ambassador, and Inner Circle areas. And my list goes on and on….
As you’re reading you may be thinking, what about those days I don’t feel joyful; when all I see is cloudy skies, dirty laundry, and empty chairs around my table! Great question- I have found that when I go looking for joy, I find it…. and when I go looking for pain, I find that too! But, if I connect with God and give the day and mood over to Him, He will nudge me to lift my head up and out! That’s where the joy is found!
So, my invitation and challenge for you today is to go on a Joy Scavenger Hunt. You may want to take your kids or grandkids outdoors on this hunt! Or, walk through your house and be aware of all the joy around you- pictures of your family and friends, a soft cuddly afghan, etc. Have fun discovering the joy that is woven into your life! And while you’re at it, share with us some of the joyful things you are discovering in the comment section below!
