Don’t Give Away Your Joy

This morning I found my bra in the punch bowl.  No it wasn’t a wild and crazy night…we’re just in the process of moving! I had stored my punch bowl in the laundry room at the old house and some laundry managed to get on top of it as we brought things in. I laughed hysterically when I saw my bra in my kitchen on top of the punchbowl! It brought some much-needed levity to the topsy-turviness of moving and I took that moment to remind myself to not let moving stress steal my joy.

Moving is stressful and I’m sure you are going through something in your life right now that has the potential to make you a stressball. Don’t give in! You have to GIVE away your joy. No one can take it from you. I choose2 live stress free even in the midst of this move. I’m taking time to laugh, keep hydrated, take a break to let Halle Kate ride her bike while I push Kenley Jane in the stroller and realize it is not a race to see how fast I can get everything in order. It will all get done and I can maintain my joy in the process. My quiet time during this stressful time is even more precious to me because I realize full well that I can do none of this in my own strength. I’m far from perfect and when I start to feel the vein on my forehead pop out, I take a minute to breathe and rely on God to care for me, to remind me of things that are most urgent, and to help me have wisdom as I parent in the middle of boxes. I also rely on him to give me a good belly laugh when I find my bra in  the punch bowl.

Have a great weekend everyone and remember, don’t give away your joy because it is your strength!

“The joy of the Lord is our strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

“The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.” -Psalm 28:7

I would love for you to leave a comment below about something funny that happened during one of your moves or something funny that has happened lately in general. I’ll be ready for some more laughs after I unpack more boxes!

  1. LAN,
I LOVE this post! And it’s not just because my favorite word is “joy”!
Thank you for reminding me to live in the moment and find joy, love, and humor in all situations!
Thank you for also reminding me to cherish all the opportunities I have to spread and share joy with all those around me!

About six months ago we moved from Louisville to San Diego. I had to get rid of a LOT of stuff we had accumulated during 24 years in that house. After several garage sales and giving and giving away we had some big things that we didn’t know how to get rid of. I said to my husband, “I need some guys with a big truck to come take this away.” A few minutes later I went outside to get in my car. A huge truck pulled up and some big guys with bandanas and tattoos got out. I asked them if they were there to look at my “free” pile. They said, “Yes M’am” like good Kentucky boys do. I told them we didn’t have much left in the small free pile and asked them if they wanted some big things. They smiled and said, “Yes, M’am.” So I showed them all the BIG stuff we had…they backed up their BIG truck…and took it all away!!! Thank you Lord!!!
