How to get Your Customers Talking About You

You may know how important good testimonials are for getting new business and earning repeat business. What you may not know is how to get testimonials. Well, I have a few ways that are tried and true that can help you get those testimonials. You can do it!

It may feel strange at first, like asking someone to compliment your new shoes… but you’ll get over that.

Testimonials are powerful tools that can help your business grow and give you ideas to improve existing products and services.

It is worth getting over the awkwardness you may feel when you first start going after them.  It takes some effort but it will be well worth it!
Here are 3 simple ways to get testimonials:

  1. Just ask! I know, right? Sounds easier said than done but many times, we don’t have what we want because we haven’t asked for it. Many of your customers will be happy to give you a positive review if you just ask them. After each sale, be sure to ask them for their feedback from their experience with you.
  2. Follow up! After they’ve received their product or service, be sure to check in to see how they’re doing. You can set up emails (Auto Responders) to be sent to your customer once they have received your product or service that thanks them for their business, reminds them how much you appreciate them choosing you, and also asks for feedback about their experience. If there was something wrong with their experience, you probably have already heard about it already without having to ask. Getting positive feedback will take some more customer contact and effort. Everyone will receive some negative feedback at some point. Don’t let that get to you! Just do your best to fix the issue or do what you can to make their next experience a better one if they’ll give you another chance. Unfortunately, positive word of mouth doesn’t travel as fast as it does when someone has something negative to say.   It is super important to always handle the complaint as quickly as possible.  Do what you can to get them saying positive things or at least satisfy them enough that they will stop complaining about their experience with you to others.  For the majority who have had a great experience, they can give you a positive testimonial at this point. You can also offer a coupon toward their next purchase to anyone who takes the time to give their feedback too.
  3.  Run a contest! Another way to gather in those testimonials is to run a contest. Offer to put them in the drawing for a giveaway or give each participant a free download of an article or special report that would benefit your ideal customer. People love to win and get things for free so it is a win- win and won’t cost you much considering the benefit of the testimonials you will receive.

Ready to get started getting your customers talking about you? You’ve worked hard to create something that you are proud to offer and it will be exciting to read each note that appreciates the work you’ve put in and the solution you’ve provided for their need. More important than that though, testimonials are a great relationship builder with new customers as they are considering working with you. When they read about positive experiences that others have had with you, they’ll feel more comfortable doing business with you. People just want to have a good experience and get their money’s worth. Testimonials are a great way to reassure new customers, and repeat business, that when they invest in you they are making a good decision.

Have fun gathering those testimonials. Next time, I’ll share how you can use testimonials to grow your business.
