A Prayer for Pain

So many people are experiencing physical pain: knees, degeneration in the neck, feet, arthritic joints, sciatica, broken bones, cancer, migraines and on and on. The pain is often debilitating or every move is an effort. Pain affects the brain, causing fogginess and sluggishness! And then there are the broken hearts, the setbacks, grief and loss, overwhelm, fear, doubt, rejection, shame. I am praying for healing.

I have a few insights, a prayer and then scripture for you to pray over yourself or others. God is listening.

Insights:

  1. Feelings don’t define us. Don’t deny your pain – acknowledge it and surrender it to God.
  2. Ask God what He wants you to know about your pain.
  3. Ask yourself if there is underlying bitterness or unforgiveness.
  4. The Lord will reveal Himself to you in personal and intimate ways – watch for Him.
  5. Many of the Psalms begin with lament and end with praise. Cry out to God but more than that, praise Him from the depths of your soul.

Prayer:

Your love abounds, Oh Lord. Your Presence is ever with me. My soul thirsts for you. I call to you and you are my Refuge and Tower of Strength. You have pulled me to you with loving-kindness and unfailing love. I rest in the shadow of your wings. You are Mighty God in whom I trust.

Lord, you are Healing. I pray that you come to me and heal this body. Heal my emotions. Heal my brain. Let your soothing hands touch the pain and remove it and replace it with your restoration, renewal and total healing. May my body and mind reflect your radiance. I accept your healing with grace, humility and faith.

Lord, in my mind’s eye I see angels surrounding me. They have swords and shields fighting the enemy. Another group of angels face me kneeling and lifting up prayers of healing for me. I receive these prayers. I receive your healing. I worship you oh Lord.

Today I come to you as a Mighty Warrior. Gideon did not feel like a Mighty Warrior yet that is what you called him. You told him to “Go in the strength I’ve given you” and when he doubted, You said, “Am I not sending you?” Oh Mighty God I stand up as a Mighty Warrior against the enemy’s attacks and lies and deceit. I may not feel like I have strength but I have YOUR strength. I bathe myself in your power and fight for the health and well-being that is Your desire for me.

Lord, You are All Powerful God who can do immeasurably more than I can ask or imagine according to the power you have given me. I trust you to make me fully whole and holy as your daughter. I know as I cry out to You, You hear me, answer me and heal my diseases.

I praise you Lord of Mercy, Truth and Compassion. You care for every part of me. You are God of Wisdom and I pray for wisdom as you guide me through this healing process. I wait with expectation and hope. My soul finds peace and comfort in you. I receive your healing and comfort and pass on your love and joy wherever I am

Through Jesus’ name I pray. Amen

Scripture:

May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it!  1 Thess. 5:23-24 (MSG)
