8 Reasons Your Business Should Be On Instagram

I have seriously fallen in love with Instagram. And the reality is, so have many other people! Instagram continues to be one of the fastest growing platforms and quite honestly, I believe it’s one that businesses, non-profits, schools and organizations need to consider getting active on.

Here’s why:

No Algorithms: Unlike Facebook, there are NO algorithms on Instagram, which means everyone can see your posts. There is nothing that is keeping people from seeing what you post on a daily basis. And when people can see what you are posing via the feed that means more engagement for YOU!

Build Your Brand: I have found that Instagram gives you an AMAZING opportunity to really build your brand online. When you have a clear understanding of what your business/organization is all about and the “story” you want to share visually, Instagram can help you create and build that “message.” For example, recently I’ve started becoming more intentional about posting social media tips and what I’ve realized is that it is these tips that are getting the most love, comments and shares. People see me as the “Inspirational Social Media Specialist” and they want posts that revolve around my expertise.

Additionally, I’m in the process of writing a book around my message, #BeWorthFollowing and Instagram is allowing me to build this message even more so via visuals! And guess what? You can do the same thing!

It’s ALL About The Visuals: We’ve heard time and time again that on every single social media platform, visual content always gets the most engagement. Well, what I LOVE about Instagram is that it’s all about the visuals! And if you can create visuals that are colorful and valuable, people will connect! Our eyes are immediately drawn to visually appealing pictures.

ENGAGEMENT Rules: “A recent study by Forrester Research found that Instagram users were 58 times more likely to like, comment, or share a brand’s post than Facebook users and 120 times more likely than Twitter users.” WOW! Did you get that? You have a real opportunity to increase your engagement on Instagram compared to Facebook and Twitter! I don’t know about you, but I LOVE engaging with people and Instagram allows for that!

Less Competition: Even though Instagram is growing like crazy, there is still room for you! There are still MANY businesses who are not taking advantage of this amazing platform and because of that, you have a real opportunity to get on board and be known!

Gives Your Business a Human Side: People want to see your human side! People want to know that you are real and authentic. And Instagram allows for that! As you can see in my bio, I not only state that I am an Inspirational Social Media Specialist, but I also share that I love God and I love Crossfit. And many times, you will find pictures throughout that include these two loves of mine.

And recently, I reached out to my IG community asking for their help! My 18-year old sister-in-law was getting ready to head out to camp and her team was DEAD LAST for getting the most “love” on IG for their camp picture. So, she begged me to help and I did! I posted about it, asked my community to “love” the picture and guess what? They did! And my sister-in-law and her team were no longer in last place!

Offering things like this throughout your profile gives your community the opportunity to see you as real, as a real human being!

Geotagging Capabilities: This is a BIGGIE if you have a brick and mortar store! The geotagging capabilities are HUGE! Every time you post a picture, you can tag your business and when you tag your business, Google Maps will automatically provide directions to your business! How GREAT is this for those of you that have an actual location for your business? What a great way to make it SUPER easy for people to find you and come shop at your store! 

Hashtags Help YOU Be Found: While hashtags are great on Twitter, I LOVE how they are used on Instagram! For every post, you can include up to 30-hashtags (although I HIGHLY recommend that you don’t use that many). If you know what hashtags are being using in your industry, use them! They will help you to be found! I LOVE this comment from a business on my IG page that shares how they found me…through a hashtag!

Additionally, unique hashtags make is super easy for you to see what people are posting! For example, I use #BeWorthFollowing quite a bit because that is based around my main message. So, when I do a search on IG for this hashtag, I can see all of my posts that use it and the posts of others that are using it too.

  3. Love this information! I’ve been really eyeing instagram lately. I feel like I should master Facebook first before moving on. But, perhaps it’s just not the right channel for me.

  4. I did not like Instagram when I first started using it. But then I saw how easy it was to get new followers AND engagement! And I love that there are no algorithms, so everyone who follows me can see all my posts. I know have over 1000 followers. And I’ve found some really neat people on Instagram (using hashtags) that I have really enjoyed connecting with. And I love having a place to post all my pretty flower pictures. They are kinda boring on FB, but on Instagram, they add to my brand. 🙂
