The thing about social media is that it NEVER stays the same. One day you feel like you’ve got your platforms under control and then, before you know it, things have changed up again. Maybe that’s why I like social media so much; it’s a constant learning environment.
I REALLY believe that this is the year of improved communication on social media. Users and businesses are looking for and wanting better ways to communicate with friends, family, clients, and potential clients and all the different social media platforms are catering to this need and want in some BIG ways this year.
Today, I want to make life easier for YOU! So, let me share with you 6 of the latest social media updates that will make communicating on the platforms easier and better for you and your audience.
1. Instagram and Multiple Profiles:
One of the BIG complaints of Instagram has been the inability to switch between multiple accounts. Well, Instagram has recently added the ability to do just this!And guess what? I’ve created a video to show you how to add an account and how to switch between the accounts:
2. Twitter to increase Character Count:
Yes, you read that correctly, Twitter is exploring the idea of increasing the Twitter Character limit from 140 characters to 10,000 characters. And that’s not all. In case you haven’t noticed, they have recently made some GREAT changes (in my opinion) that have helped make the platform much more enjoyable which has brought about more engagement. These changes included:
√ A 10,000 character limit for direct messages on Twitter
√ The ability to now see photos fully on Twitter; no more clicking the photo to see it all.
√ Moving from “Favorites” to “Likes” for each tweet
3. Facebook LIVE for Profiles:
Originally, Facebook LIVE was only available to an “elite group” of verified Facebook Pages. But now, Facebook is releasing this live video option to personal profiles on a daily basis. Facebook Live is currently only available to some iPhone users but in the coming months, will be released to Android users too. With the rise of video and live streaming, Facebook is getting into the game too! And what I LOVE about this live video streaming option is that you will have the opportunity to broadcast your video to your friends only, a list or the public from your profile. Additionally, once you complete your live streaming video, it will automatically post and be saved onto your timeline.
4. Facebook Message Response Time:
Have you noticed that Facebook pages now share with visitors how long it takes for the business to respond back to messages? This is HUGE! The reality is, more and more consumers are coming to social media to get their questions answered and needs met by businesses and Facebook is leading in this area by providing communication features that do just that. Additionally, page admins can now choose to show the time frame as to when they will respond to messages.
5. Facebook Away Message:
Page Admins now have the ability to create an “away” message for their pages. At iBloom, our team makes it a priority to spend the weekends with friends and family and what that means is that we don’t check messages on Facebook. But as you can imagine, we still get messages over the weekend or late at night and the last thing we wanted was for our community to think that we were ignoring them. With this new “away” added feature, we now have a message that goes out as soon as someone send us a message outside of business hours. This message says:“Thank you so much for reaching out to iBloom. Our team is enjoying time with our families right now, but as soon as we return during normal business hours (M-F, 9-5 PM ET) we will be in touch. Blessings to you!”This message allows our community to know that we have received their message and that we are not ignoring them.
6. Redesigned Facebook Message Inbox:
I LOVE this new feature! Now, when clients and potential clients message you on your Facebook business page, Facebook will provide you with information about them from their personal profile (any information that they make public). Additionally, Facebook will provide you with information on past interactions and as an admin, you will have the ability to add notes; things that you want to specifically remember about that client, conversation, etc.
Communication is a BIG priority this year and one you don’t want to ignore. People are coming to social media and spending time on the different platforms. As a business and/or ministry, it’s important to create a plan that helps you communicate effectively with a community that wants and needs what you have to offer
