If you are running a business, blogging on a consistent basis can be a challenge. You have so much to do and the urgent can easily take over while your blog gets pushed back…way back into a corner (for when you have more time). I understand! But since blogging is an important tool for growing your business and you aren’t going to be getting more time anytime soon, I want to share with you 6 secrets to consistent blogging. You really can blog consistently while running a successful business.

Having a system in place will be a HUGE help and also a major time saver. Once you incorporate these 6 secrets to consistent blogging, you will see what a big difference it makes in helping build your business, save you time when it is time to write, and serve your customers in an exceptional way. Sounds good, right? Here we go.

6 Secrets To Consistent Blogging:

Secret #1 Have a Blog Schedule

Decide the # of times per week that you will post a blog. Next, do the math to determine how many blog posts you will need to write each month. This will help you as you create your Blog Content List later.

Secret #2 Keep a Blog Journal

This is just a journal, notebook, or even a list on your phone where you will capture ideas, comments, questions, complaints etc that will inspire you to write. This is a huge time saver in the long run because trying to remember all of this stuff when it is time to sit down and write is near impossible! Just jot them down as you think of them or as customers send you emails, call you, or stop in and when it is time to update your Blog Content List, you are all set!

Secret #3 Create an Ongoing Blog Content List

This is where you take your blog journal and start breaking it down into ideas for individual blog posts. Many times, one topic written in your blog journal is really enough content for a series of blog posts. Be thinking of how you can use the questions, comments, and even complaints you’ve received from customers to serve them with content that will be useful to them. Use your blog schedule to see how many posts you will need to produce each month and play a game with yourself to keep your Blog Content List at least 3 months full of ideas at all times. You may not end up using all of them but you will be excited to see how the list inspires you to create great content week after week.

Secret #4 Accountability

Once you have your Blog Content List, get out your calendar and assign a date to each topic on your Blog Content List. This will help prevent writer’s block when you sit down to write. When you can look ahead to what posts are coming soon, it will get those creative juices flowing. You will be more prepared to write and to be on the lookout for other information that can add to your content.

Secret #5 Set an Appointment To Write

It’s not enough to know you need to get it done, in order to blog consistently, you need to set aside time for the task. Set aside time on your schedule each week to write and then don’t break that appointment with yourself. I like tell myself that once I get tasks done, I will treat myself to something fun. If you can get in the habit of doing what needs to be completed early in the day and delaying what is most fun for you once it is complete, you will be surprised how quickly you can get through it.

Secret #6 Have a Blog Bank

Plan for surprises by making a commitment to yourself that you will get ahead on your blog posts by having a “blog bank” that is at least a few posts deep at all times. That way, when life gets busy(er), there’s an emergency, or you want to take a vacation, you still have something great to post without it being stressful.

  1. I love this! I am excited to brainstorm how this would work for me as a social media consultant. Maybe the blog topic list could be a shared Google doc between me and my client, and we could have quarterly or monthly coffee dates where we plan “big picture.”
