5 Must See Food Films

Are you a wife, a mom, an entrepreneur, homeschooler, just starting out in business or working 3 jobs trying to make ends meet? In the hierarchy of life do you come last, especially when it relates to your health and wellness? I understand. I was on the brink of turning 40, borderline diabetic and obese. I had tried every diet I could possibly try and nothing seemed to work. I was a wife and a mom with a stressful corporate job who knew she had to get well to be able to take care of her family but I didn’t know what to do. I was at the end of my rope, I was sick and tired of feeling deprived and defeated, I had no idea why my best efforts were failing me. No matter how hard I tried my health was failing. Can you relate?

KK1I will never forget the first time I watched a food documentary. Food Inc. was the film that changed everything for me! I learned that the food that I ate {The Standard American Diet} was full of chemicals that made me crave it, as well as pesticides that made me sick. For the first time in over 30 years I understood that it wasn’t always about my willpower or how much I prayed that I would be satiated, my body had been trained and had become addicted to strategically placed ingredients in fast and processed foods.

First and foremost it made me mad, I couldn’t believe that the government allows such inhumane and unethical practices to exist in our food supply. Secondly, and best of all, it pushed me to take real action steps for myself and my family; changing what we ate, how we ate, where we shopped and how we lived. Food films took my strong desire for personal wellness, turned it into a passion and finally into a career where I can help others make real change too. It was just the spark that I needed to ignite my healthy life. I had a brand new perspective and with that knowledge came power.

I want to share this powerful education with you. I want you to experience the freedom that comes from knowing what is going on behind the scenes so that you can finally make the changes that you’ve been wanting to make to transform your health too.

When I was exposed to all this information I was pretty much on my own to figure out my next steps and unpack what I had experienced on my own. I wasn’t sure what to buy, where to shop or who to talk too without people thinking I had gone crazy. Trust me, my husband wasn’t sure what to think, he pretty much decided that I had become a new age hippie overnight, rest assured that is NOT the case! He even let me have backyard chickens for a while and works tirelessly in the garden. One of my favorite things is watching my 8 year old daughter make healthy for her choices. There are plenty of resources, people and places to assist and you don’t have to go this alone. I want to personally invite you truly take control of your health and wellness goals once and for all. This was the first food documentary I ever watched, it sent me on journey that changed everything for me and my family. Food, Inc. lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won’t go bad. Week #3 ~ June 23 – 29, Facebook Party June 30th.

100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross is at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. In the mirror he saw a 310 lb. man whose gut was bigger than a beach ball and a path laid out before him that wouldn’t end well— with one foot already in the grave, the other wasn’t far behind. FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD is an inspiring film that chronicles Joe’s personal mission to regain his health. What I like most about this film is that you get to witness Joe’s journey, how he helps others along the way and how important incorporating juicing into your diet can be. Week #4 ~ June 30 – July 6, Facebook Party July 7th.

Everything we’ve been told about food and exercise for the past 30 years is dead wrong. FED UP is the film the food industry doesn’t want you to see. FED UP shines a blinding light on sugar and processed food showing how it’s causing millions of Americans, especially our youth, to become heavier and sicker than ever. If I had to pick, this is my favorite of these five films. My wish is that everyone would watch this, recognize just how ill this sweet confection is making them and their families and change for the benefit of our generations. Week #5 ~ July 7 – 13, Facebook Party July 14th.

Forks Over Knives examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods. The idea of food as medicine is put to the test. Throughout the film, cameras follow “reality patients” who have chronic conditions from heart disease to diabetes. Doctors teach these patients how to adopt a whole-food, plant-based diet as the primary approach to treat their ailments—while the challenges and triumphs of their journeys are revealed. Every single one of these documentaries are available on Netflix, some are available on Amazon Prime, several are free on YouTube or you may be able to check them out from your public library!
